About Dungeon Hamlet

Dungeon Hamlet is a fantasy town management sim in pixel art, played in the browser. You are the mayor of a small village at the edge of a monster meadow. You never swing a sword yourself: the heroes are your customers.

Adventurers walk in through the gate, rest at the Inn, visit your shops and then head out past the fence to hunt slimes, moss rats, crabs, imps and worse. Every visit pays. A Weapon Shop sells them better swords and staves, an Armor Shop keeps them standing, a Bakery, a Pub, a Combat School and a Magic Lab train their stats. Shops only work when a path runs along their front, so the layout matters, and buildings that touch each other lift each other's appeal. Flower beds raise the price and quality of every shop next to them.

Shops level up as they are visited, monsters grow tougher the more of them fall, and chests from dungeon runs and the wyrm unlock new gear for the shops. Happy adventurers want to stay: build a House, pay the move-in fee and they become residents who bring a gift and pay tax for every monster they slay.

The quest board offers monster outbreaks and dungeon runs. Town Points from kills and quests pay for research, events like the Barbecue or the Fireworks, job changes and a wider town. Farmers can become Warriors, a Mage can join later, and once someone masters a job at level 10, the Knight opens up. In year two the Emberwyrm lands at the gate and drains your fame every month it lives.

After four years the Royal Inspection rates your village. The score adds your fame, 200 per star, 100 per resident, 300 per slain wyrm, one point per 100 gold and 10 per cleared quest. The town saves itself in the browser, so you can close the tab and continue later.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do I control the adventurers in combat?

No. They fight on their own, choose their shops by need and wander the meadow looking for monsters. You shape them with the shops you build, the gear those shops sell, the jobs you give them and the quests you accept.

How do shop neighbours and flower beds work?

Shops that touch another shop, even at a corner, gain appeal from it, so adventurers pick them more often. Every Flower Bed next to a shop adds 20 gold to its price and 5 to its quality. A shop needs a path along one edge to get any visitors at all.

How do adventurers move in?

Each adventurer has a happiness bar that grows with good visits and events. Once it is high enough they ask for a home. Build a House, pay the move-in fee in the People tab, and they become a resident who brings a gift and pays tax for every monster they slay. If no house is free for a few months, they leave town for a while.

What does the Emberwyrm do?

It lands at the gate in year two and costs your town 10 fame every month it lives. Its breath hits everyone close to it. Slay it for gold, Town Points, fame and a blue chest. If it falls, it comes back stronger in year three for a second chance.

How is the score counted?

After four years: your fame, plus 200 per star, 100 per resident, 300 per slain wyrm, one point per 100 gold and 10 per cleared quest. Every January a progress score is saved too, so a town you leave early still counts.

How long does a game of Dungeon Hamlet take?

A year takes about four minutes at normal speed and under a minute and a half at the fastest, so the whole run is roughly 5 to 15 minutes plus the time you spend paused. The town saves itself in the browser, and Continue on the title screen picks it up.
