About Gloop's Escape

Gloop's Escape is a side-scrolling platformer in which the hero is the monster. Gloop is a small green slime born in an alchemist's flask, and the whole kingdom has decided he has to go. Peasants with pitchforks, torchbearers, holy fairies, armoured knights and acolytes who call down pillars of light all chase him from the cellar where he was made, through a village at nightfall and a haunted forest, up to the roof of a storm-lashed cathedral.

Gloop runs and jumps like a classic platformer hero, with momentum, a higher jump the longer you hold the button, and a stomp that bounces him off enemies. Being a slime, he also sticks to walls: jump into a wall to cling to it, slide down slowly, and kick off to climb shafts that would stop anyone else. Bricks, coin blocks, crumbling ledges, springs and moving platforms fill the levels.

Power-ups change how he plays. A Goo Drop makes him big enough to take an extra hit and smash bricks from below, an Ember Berry lets him spit bouncing fireballs, and a Bubble Bloom gives him a double jump and a slow glide. Taking a hit costs one power step, and a hit while small costs a life.

The last level ends on the cathedral ramparts, where a party of five heroes is waiting: a warrior, an archer, a mage, a cleric and their paladin leader. Each has an attack pattern to learn and a moment where they can be hit.

The score counts coins, defeated enemies, cleared levels, heroes beaten and a time bonus for every second under par, plus a large bonus for every life left if Gloop reaches the sunrise.

Frequently Asked Questions

How many levels does Gloop's Escape have?

Four: the Alchemist's Cellar, Hearthvale Village, the Hallowed Woods and Sunspire Cathedral. The cathedral ends with a fight against a party of five heroes on the ramparts.

How does wall clinging work?

Jump into a wall and keep holding the direction toward it. Gloop sticks and slides down slowly. Press jump while clinging to kick off the wall in the opposite direction. Alternating between two walls lets you climb a narrow shaft.

What do the power-ups do?

The Goo Drop makes Gloop big, so he survives one more hit and can break bricks from below. The Ember Berry lets him spit bouncing fireballs. The Bubble Bloom gives a double jump and a slow glide while you hold jump. Getting hit removes one power step.

How is the score calculated?

Coins are worth 10 points, defeated enemies 100, every cleared level 1000, and each second under a level's par time 10. Each hero in the final fight is worth 1000 and the paladin leader 3000. Winning adds 2000 for every life you have left.

What happens when I lose a life?

You restart from the last lantern you lit, or from the start of the level if you have not lit one. Coins you collected and enemies you defeated stay that way, and the level clock keeps the time you already spent. Losing your last life ends the run.
