About Glyph Sudoku

Play free sudoku online in your browser, no download and no sign-up needed. Glyph Sudoku is PixelDen's pixel art take on the classic 9×9 number puzzle: fill every row, column and 3×3 box with the digits 1 to 9 so that no digit ever repeats. Every board is generated with exactly one solution and graded by the techniques it actually needs, so an Easy board really is easy and an Expert board really makes you think.

Pick from four difficulties, from gentle boards you can clear with singles up to Expert grids that demand locked candidates, pairs and X-wing spotting. Pencil marks are built in: flip the NOTES toggle and the number pad writes small candidates into a cell instead of a value. Auto-highlight keeps the board readable by lighting up the selected row, column and box and dimming every copy of the selected digit.

Relaxed mode is on by default — a wrong entry just turns red and the puzzle never ends; turn it off to have the board reject rule-breaking digits outright. Stuck? A hint fills the correct digit for a small time penalty.

Every day there's a shared Daily Challenge: one Medium board, the same for every player worldwide. Solve it to build a daily streak, and race the clock — the leaderboard ranks the fastest valid solves, with harder difficulties worth a bigger time bonus.

Frequently Asked Questions

How do you play sudoku?

Fill the 9×9 grid so every row, every column and every 3×3 box contains the digits 1 to 9 exactly once. You start from a set of given clues and reason out the rest — every Glyph Sudoku board has exactly one solution, so you never have to guess.

Is this sudoku game free?

Yes, completely free. Glyph Sudoku runs in your browser with no download, no install and no sign-up. Creating a free account is only needed if you want your best times on the leaderboard.

What do the difficulty levels mean?

Boards are graded by the solving techniques they need, not just how many clues they show. Easy needs only singles, Medium adds locked candidates, Hard adds naked and hidden pairs, and Expert can demand X-wing level deductions.

What is the Daily Challenge?

Every day there is one shared Medium board — the exact same puzzle for every player worldwide, seeded from the UTC date. Solve it to extend your daily streak, and compare your time with everyone playing the same grid.

What are pencil marks and how do I use them?

Pencil marks (notes) are small candidate digits you write into a cell while reasoning. Toggle NOTES and the number pad adds or removes candidates instead of placing values. Placing a real digit automatically erases that candidate from the surrounding row, column and box.

Do hints disqualify my score?

No. A hint fills in the correct digit for the selected cell and simply costs 30 seconds of your time bonus, so a hinted solve still submits to the leaderboard — it just ranks a little lower than a clean one.

Can I play sudoku on my phone?

Yes. Glyph Sudoku is portrait-native and built for one-thumb play: the grid sits on top and the number pad under your thumb. It works on any modern phone, tablet or desktop browser.
