About Rooftop Rush
Rooftop Rush is a side-scrolling race for two players sharing one keyboard. Wren runs on WASD and Juno runs on the arrow keys. Both couriers start on the same roof with the same parcel, and the airship waiting at the end of the district only takes one of them.
The screen scrolls on its own and keeps getting faster, always following whoever is in front. Drop off the left edge and you are out of the round, so falling behind matters as much as falling down a gap. Jump between buildings, slide under laundry lines, bounce off striped awnings, ride steam vents up to higher roofs and hook onto tethered balloons to swing across the widest gaps.
The couriers can get in each other's way. Land on the other one's head to stun her for a moment, and grab the parcels scattered on the rooftops for gadgets: a rocket boost, an oil slick or a smoke bomb to leave behind, a clockwork bird that hunts down the other courier, or springs for higher jumps. The player in front tends to get the gadgets that defend a lead, the one behind gets the ones that help catch up.
The race visits five districts, each with its own time of day: the docks at sunrise, the market at noon, the clockwork quarter at golden hour, a neon alley at night and the crystal heights under the aurora.
In 1 vs 1 the first player to win three rounds takes the match. Alone, you race the rival courier through all five districts in a row with three hearts. Every district you win scores points, with a bonus for finishing under par time and for gears and stomps along the way, and reaching the last airship adds a bonus for every heart you still have.
Frequently Asked Questions
Can two people play Rooftop Rush on one computer?
Yes. Rooftop Rush is built for two players on one keyboard. Wren uses W, A, S and D and Juno uses the arrow keys. On the title screen each player presses their own Up key to join, then Space starts the match.
Can I play alone?
Yes. Join with one player and press Space to race the rival courier, controlled by the computer, through five districts. You have three hearts, and a lost district costs one heart and is played again.
How do you lose a round?
The screen scrolls on its own and follows the leader. A courier who drops off the left edge is out, and the other one wins the round. Reaching the airship ladder first also wins it.
What do the parcels do?
Each purple parcel gives a random gadget: a rocket boost, an oil slick behind you, a smoke bomb that slows whoever runs through it, a clockwork bird that flies at your rival and stuns her, or spring jumps. The courier in front gets defensive gadgets more often and the one behind gets catch-up gadgets.
How is the solo score calculated?
Each district you win is worth 1000 points times its number in the run. You also get 20 points per second under the district's par time, 10 per gear and 50 per stomp. Winning all five districts adds 3000 points plus 1000 for every heart left.
